Through the years the old cemetery has known seven distinct periods of recorded history, and also has been known as Old Calhoun, Calvary, Old Calvary and Calvin Cemetery. For more than fifty years the cemetery was neglected, largely forgotten, and heavily overgrown. On January 1, 2000 the Calhoun Cemetery Association was formally organized and the Trustees have cleaned, surveyed, documented, and formally recorded the original one acre parcel as the Calhoun Cemetery. Many of these additional graves date from the period of the Old Calvary Baptist Church {1909 - 1944}, and efforts are underway to properly identify the graves of these church members. Other graves without headstones are found in most family sections, as well as in the oldest part of the cemetery. The cemetery program of the Calhoun Cemetery Association is an evolving and continuing process of documentation and any additional information or assistance with the identification of any of these unmarked graves is greatly appreciated.
