Bishop, aged 50 years, who, being by me duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by act of the Legislature, approved June 2, 1899 for indigent widows of deceased Confederate soldiers and sailors: I am the lawful widow of Geo. W. Bishop, who enlisted May 8, 1862 in Captain John D. Leigh Company "G" Regiment of the State of Florida, and who while in actual service and in the line of duty as such ____ , was on the ____ day of ____, 186_, at ____ in the State of ____. The said Geo. W. Bishop died on the 3rd of Sept., 1902 of Dropsy. That I was legally married to said soldier on the 7th day of July, 1869 at Milton, in the State of Florida; that I have been a bona fide resident of the State of Florida continuously since the 7th day of July; that I do not own property, real and personal, to the value of $600 in this or any other State, and am not otherwise enabled, or in a position to earn a livelihood, and have no income from any source sufficient for a livelihood; that I have no children or other relation able so to do and whose legal duty it is to support me, and that I have not purposely disposed of my property for the purpose of availing myself of the provisions of this act. Bishop now deceased, that she has never remarried since his death, that she is a person of "respectability and good reputation", that she does not own property to the value of $600 in this or any other State, and that she is not physically or otherwise enabled to earn a livelihood, and has constantly resided in Florida since January 1, 1880. Bishop, a resident of Milligan, County of Santa Rosa, State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the provisions of Chapter 5885, Laws of Florida, approved June 7, 1909. That she is the widow of G. W. Bishop who was enlisted under the name of G. W. Bishop on the 18th of May, 1862 in Company "C", 1st Florida Regiment, State of Florida and who was honorably discharged at ____, 186_, on account of the close of the war. That she was lawfully married to the said G. W. Bishop under the name of Sarah L. Helms in the County of Santa Rosa, State of Florida on the 7th day of July, 1869, and that she was not divorced from him and that she has not remarried since his death, which occurred on the 2nd day of December, 1902, in the County of Santa Rosa, State of Florida. That she is a resident of Santa Rosa County, Florida, and has continuously resided in the State of Florida since the 15th day of April, 1867. That she does not own property, including real estate, personal property, mortgages or other collateral securities, stocks or bonds in this or any other State to exceed in value to sum of Five Thousand dollars. Mr. Green I am so sorry that I failed to make my father name clear in my letter to you of August 23. That was an oversite on my part. I will ask you to forgive me of that mistake. My farther [sic] is George Washington Bishop he Vollenear [sic] inlisted [sic] in the armey abbout 1861 with Co. F first Florida Regiment in Santa Rosa Co., Fla. Mr. Green here is ? I want the corect [sic] year of his inlistment [sic] the year he was born and state and counts [sic] of birth. I willing to pay for this record. Thanking you in advance Yours very truley, [sic] Joseph Bishop ******************************************************************************************* Sept. 12, 1955 Mr. Joseph Bishop Re: G. W. Bishop Route 2, Jay, Florida Dear Mr. Bishop: I have your letter of September 10th, stating that your father's name was George Washington Bishop, and I do not find the name of George Washington Bishop on the roll. We do find the name of G. W. Bishop and his widow Mrs. Sarah L. Bishop of Santa Rosa County received a pension from the State of Florida under Certificate No. 621. Mrs. Bishop stated in her application that her husband, G. W. Bishop enlisted on the 18th day of May, 1862, in Company "C", 1st Florida Regiment, on the 18th day of May, 1862, and served until discharged on account of the close of the war, in 1865. Mrs. Bishop was married to G. W. Bishop under the name of Sarah L. Helms on July 7, 1869, and he died on the 2nd day of December, 1902, in Santa Rosa County. The date of his birth, or place of birth, is not shown on the application for pension. It may be you can get this information from the County Judge of Santa Rosa County from the marriage certificate, since they were married in that county.
