BACON, EVERETT JOSEPH is a leading representative of the real estate business in the City of 
Sarasota, judicial center of the new county of that name and the firm of which he is the 
senior member, not only does a general real estate business in this attractive and progressive 
county, but has also the agency for six substantial fire insurance companies and handles 
high-grade securities, as agents for the American Surety Company.

Mr. BACON was born at Williamsfield, Ashtabula County, Ohio, on the 29th of October, 1883, 
and is a son of PHILIP (sic) C. and EFFIE M. WEMPLE BACON, the former of whom likewise was 
born in Ashtabula County and the latter of whom was born at Hampden, Geauga County, that 
state.  The father continued his active alliance with farm industry in the old Buckeye 
State until 1910, when he came to Sarasota, Florida, where he and his son, EVERETT J., had 
purchased property in the preceding years, he and his wife having since maintained their 
home here.

EVERETT J. BACON continued his studies in the public schools of Ohio until he had profited 
by the advantages of the high school at Chardon, and thereafter he took a course in general 
business and in commercial law in a well ordered business college at Warren, Ohio.  In 1902
he entered the employ of the Warren Water & Light Company, with which he continued for two 
years, in the capacity of assistant bookkeeper.  In 1904 he married Miss NORMA A. STRATTON, 
daughter of WILLIAM A. and BERTHA (SAUER) STRATTON, of Pomeroy, Ohio, near which place the 
mother was born, the father having been born in the vicinity of Lexington, Kentucky.  After 
their marriage Mr. And Mrs. BACON established their home on a farm owned by his father, in 
Geauga County, Ohio, but six months later he resumed his connection with the Warren Water 
& Light Company, of the office of which he had charge until September, 1911, when he resigned 
and came to Sarasota, Florida, where he engaged in the real estate business.  In this 
enterprise he continued, under different partnership alliances, until the nation entered the 
World war, when he went to Marco, Lee County, to assist in the management of the affairs of 
the Marco Corporation, where he continued in charge eighteen months.  For the ensuing years 
he had charge of the Park View apartment building in the City of Tampa, and he then returned 
to Sarasota and resumed his successful real estate operations, in partnership with J. M. 
CLARK, who had been in charge of the business during the absence of Mr. BACON.

In 1915 Mr. BACON served as a member of the City Council of Sarasota, and in the autumn of 
1920 he was elected mayor of the city, his administration of municipal affairs being efficient 
and progressive.  He became justice of the peace at Sarasota while the city was still in 
Manatee County, and upon the formation of the new County of Sarasota, in 1921, he was 
reappointed to this office, of which he continued the incumbent at the time of this writing, 
in the fall of 1922.  He is affiliated with the local Blue Lodge and also the York Rite 
Chapter of the Masonic fraternity, and he is known and valued as one of the loyal, progressive
and public-spirited citizens of Sarasota County and its fine judicial center.  Mr. And 
Mrs. BACON have no children.
