D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty-One, personally appeared before me, a ____ in and for the County and State aforesaid Martha Lamkin Herrin or Morrill a resident of Sarasota County of Sarasota State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the provisions of the General Pension Laws of Florida as amended by Chapter 8400, Acts of 1921. That she is the lawful widow of Edward Webb Morrill who enlisted under the name of E. W. Morrill on the 1st day of August, 1862, in Company H 51st Cavalry Regiment of the State of Alabama, said Regiment being also known as the First Alabama Partisan Rangers, C.S.A. and who was honorably discharged at Montgomery, Alabama May 15, 1865 on account of ____. That he also served in Confederate Navy before enlisting as above. That she was lawfully married to the said Edward Webb Morrill under the name of Miss Mattie Herrin in the County of Escambia State of Florida on the second day of August, 1871, and that she was not divorced from him nor has she remarried since his death, which occurred on the 13th day of February, 1910, in the County of Manatee, State of Florida except as hereinafter stated. That she is a resident of Sarasota County, Florida, and has continuously resided in the State of Florida since the 22nd day of May 1900. She is not a pensioner of any other State. I enclose you herewith certified copy of the record of the marriage; the names are a little different, but no doubt they are the same persons. There will be no charge for the copy, as I am always glad to help the widow of a Confederate soldier. Information is requested relative to the service of the late Edward Webb Morrill, who died in Sarasota, Florida, in Feb. 1910, in behalf of the widow, relative to obtaining a Florida State pension. 2. E. W. Morrill served during the Rebellion, at first in the C. S. Navy, shortly after Virginia seceded. Then later he transferred to the ? Company, 51 Regiment, State of Alabama. 3. All that is known definitely of this officer, locally, is that he was called "Colonel" and that he had a C.S.A. Commission, but of what rank, we do not know. 4. It is requested that the A.G.O. furnish me with such information as the Departmental files may contain, relative to this officer of the purpose above mentioned. John W. W. Morrill as a private in that Company. This roll is not an official roll, but is made up from a scrap book list of the wife of the Captain of the Company in which Mr. Morrill served.
