Robison II Johnnyreb6@aol.com August 21, 2007, 2:39 am Company G, 1st Florida Infantry Regiment, United States Volunteers, 1898-1899 COMPANY G 1ST FLORIDA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT This Company was organized at St. Augustine, Florida, and left there by rail on May 12th, 1898, for Tampa, a distance of 249 miles; arrived there on May 13th and pitched camp at Fort Brooke, Tampa, Florida; the company was mustered into service there on May 23rd, 1898; broke camp and marched to DeSoto Park, Tampa, where they pitched camp on May 27th. Moved with the Regiment on July 21st from Tampa to Fernandina by rail, a distance of 250 miles and arrived at Fernandina on July 22nd; pitched camp there the same day. Moved with the Regiment on August 23rd by rail to Huntsville, Alabama, which place was reached on August 25th, distance traveled about 600 miles; pitched temporary camp on August 25th in the suburbs of Huntsville on August 6th; marched about one mile and pitched permanent cam, one and one-half miles from the town, where the company was mustered out of service. „« CAPTAIN Howatt, Frank J.: Mustered into service as First Lieutenant on April 25th, 1898; Appointed Captain, May 18th, 1898; Mustered out of service on January 27th, 1899. „« FIRST LIEUTENANT Foster, Joseph Clifford Reed: Mustered into service as Second Sergeant on April 25th, 1898; appointed First Lieutenant on May 18th, 1898; Appointed Quartermaster of the 3rd Battalion on October 10th, 1898, per Special Order No. 3. [Born on February 13th, 1873 at Savannah, Georgia; Enters the Florida State Troops as a Private on October 8th, 1891; Rises to the rank of Battalion Sergeant Major, he was commissioned into the First Florida Regiment and served with it on active federal service during the Spanish-American War; In 1901, he rises from captain to Major general and Adjutant General of the State of Florida at the age of 28; serving as the Adjutant General from June 29th, 1901 to January 10th, 1917, and again from February 3rd, 1923 to June 18th, 1928, on which date he died.
