County of Taylor} On this the Eleventh Day of August One thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Six personally appeared before the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Taylor County Mrs ELIZABETH BLUE a resident of the county of Taylor in the State of Florida aged thirty six years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on oath make the following Declaration as guardian of the minor children of FRANCIS GROOM Deceased in order to obtain the benefits of the provisions made by the Act of Congress approved July 14th 1862, granting pension to minor-children under the age of sixteen years of age of Deceased officers and states that she is the guardian of JOHN M. GROOM, MARY E. GROOM, SUSAN C. GROOM, JOSEPH S. GROOM, NANCY E. GROOM, ARA MALISSA GROOM whose father was a private in Company C commanded by Captain STEPHEN W WHITFIELD Secondly by First Lt. C. POOL in the Second Regiment Florida Cavalry Volunteers in the War of 1861, and that the said FRANCIS GROOM Died at Cedar Keys in the State of Florida on the First Day of September One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Four with Chronic Dysentery, that the Mother of the children of FRANCIS GROOM aforesaid Married again being now the wife of SAMUEL BLUE Married on the Thirteenth Day of September 1865, and that the date of birth of her said (illegible)is as follows, JOHN M. GROOM born February 21st, 1852 MARY E GROOM born April 25th 1854, SUSAN C. GROOM born May 27th 1856, JOSEPH S. GROOM born November 10th, 1858, NANCY E GROOM born March 7, 1861 ARA M. GROOM born March the 1st 1863. She further declares that the parents of her said wards were married at Stewart County in the State of Georgia on the Thirteenth Day of October 1844. Married by JAMES ADAMS Justice of the Peace, And hereby constitute and appoint SAMUEL A WILLCOX my (illegible) attorney in fact to prosecute this my claim and (illegible) the pension certificate for my said wards when issued. And was taken Sick with Chronic Dysentery while in camps in the line of his duty and died of the Said disease in the Hospital at Cedar Keys Fla. On the 1st day of September AD 1864. That he was personally aquainted with FRANCIS GROOM deceased and knew him to be a man of civil temperate habits and that his disease was not contracted by any misconduct of his but was to my certain Knowledge contracted in the Line of his duty. ALLEN OQUIN County Judge Also personally appeared DREWRY J CLARK of Taylor County and State of Florida who being duly sworn according to Law Says that he was well and personally aquainted with FRANCIS GROOM deceased that he refugeed with him and went acrost the lines with him and that he had all appearance of (illegible) and looked like a healthy Sound man that he enlisted in the Same Company with him and Stayed with him all the time during his time of service and our tents were within twenty five yards of each other when he was taken sick and know that he contracted the disease in service in line of duty that killed him which was chronic dysentery and saw him regular as he went to the hospital until he died and know it was the same disease he taken in camps that killed him D.
