Stanaland and Mrs. Sarah Howard Stanaland of Perry. He was an active Elder of the Primitive Baptist Church for many years, his present churches were; Blue Springs, Mt. Horeb, and Corinth Primitive Baptist Churches, all in Madison County. Besides his church work, he was also employed by the Florida State Road Department for a number of years. Elder Stanaland passed away Monday morning, September 16, 1963, at his home near Perry after an extended illness. Survivors are: his wife, Edwa Joe Stephens Stanaland of Perry; three sons, Wesley D. Stanaland of Perry, Joel W. Stanaland of Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, and Tommie Joe Stanaland of the U.S. Air Force in Germany; four daughters Mrs. Edwa Jo Elizabeth Bell of Charleston, South Carolina, Sarah Queen Poppell of Orlando, Mrs. Mary Ester Hunter of Perry, and Miss Gertrude Stanaland of Perry; his mother Mrs. Sarah C. Stanaland also of Perry; one brother, Zachariah Stanaland of Tampa, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Jones of Albany, Georiga and a number of grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services: Thursday, September 19th, 1963, at 11 a.m. in the Corinth Primitive Baptist Church south of Lee, Florida. The burial followed in Corinth Cemetary with T.J. Beggs, Jr. Funeral Home of Madison in charge of the arrangements. Elders Officiating of the Primitive Baptist Faith: Elder Harris, Elder Jones, Elder Suggs, Elder Hill, Elder Blanton, Elder Fish and Brother Morgan. Active Pallbearers: Deacons of Blue Springs, Corinth, Shiloh & Mt. Horeb Primitive Baptist Churches: Brother Roy Fulford, Brother Stafford Law, Brother Herman Williams, Brother Early Donaldson, Brother Russell Newsome, Brother Lloyd Richardson, Brother Frank williams and Brother Lonnie Vann. Honary Pallbearers: Deacons of Little Rock, Fellowship, Shiloh & Sharon Primitive Baptist Churches: Brother John Poppell, Brother G.C. Blanton, Brother Jessee Thigpen, Brother Nathaniel Kilcrease, Brother J.O. English, Brother Duddy Peters, Brother C.W. Knowles, Brother M.C. Wells, Brother George Martin, Brother R.M. Law and Brother M.H. Cruce. Wesley Columbus Stanaland united with Rocky ford Primitive Baptist Church, which was located in the north westestern section of Taylor County, Florida in 1933. Later he was liberated in 1935 by this same body. In 1936 he was ordained to the full Ministry.
