Mr. CARLETON came to Florida in 1896, and for a time was located at Tampa, then a small town. He afterward went to Palm Beach, and since 1900 has been located at Ormond. He has erected a number of hotels, residences and business structures along the Halifax River and on the beach. Mr. CARLTON was born near Groton, Massachusetts, March 16, 1865, son of AMOS P. and HARRIETT ANN (BUTTERFIELD) CARLETON. His father was a carpenter by trade, and died in 1907. The mother, now eighty-seven years of age, lives at North Andover, Massachusetts. GEORGE A. CARLETON was educated in the Groton High School, and as a youth learned the carpenter’s trade. Along with the practical work of building contracting he has studied and acquired a broad knowledge of the architectural profession, and he plans many of the houses he builds. Mr. CARLETON is affiliated with the Knights of Pythias at Miami, and is president of the Ormond Yacht Club. He has built a number of boats, and is a skillful pilot and sailor as well.
