Mr. Haile was born at Ocala, Marion County, Florida, on the 7th of January, 1889, and is a son of GEORGE REYNOLDS HAILE and MARGARET (ALSTON) HAILE, the former of whom was born at Kanapaha, near the City of Gainesville, Alachua County, this state, and the latter of whom was born in the State of Alabama. For fully twenty years past GEORGE R. HAILE has been a traveling salesman for the Globe Soap Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, and he and his wife maintain their home at Jacksonville, Florida. Their children are four in number, and the subject of this review is the only son. GEORGE R. HAILE is affiliated with the Masonic fraternity and the Knights of Pythias, and he and his wife hold membership in the Presbyterian Church. The preliminary education of ALSTON R. HAILE was obtained in the public schools, including the high school at Lake City, and thereafter he attended the University of Florida until he had attained to the age of nineteen years. He then entered the employ of the Consolidated Grocery Company in the City of Jacksonville, his original work having been in the company's warehouse, and the following two years having been marked by his effective service in the offices of the company. He next passed a year in the office of the Baker-Holmes Company, likewise engaged in the wholesale grocery trade at Jacksonville, and for the ensuing ten years he was a successful and valued traveling representative of Stringfellow, Padgett & Company, his assigned territory being Eastern Florida. When this concern opened a branch establishment at Palatka, this state, Mr. Haile was placed in charge of the same, and in this connection he continued his active and successful administration until he retired to engage independently in business. In the spring of 1921 he organized the Haile Grocery Company, of which he has since continued president and manager and which under his vigorous and well ordered regime has made a splendid record, the equipment of the company's establishments at Daytona and De Land being of the best order, and the facilities being adequate to meet the demands of the constantly expanding business. Mr. Haile is a Knight Templar Mason and affiliated also with the Mystic Shrine, besides holding membership in the Knights of Pythias. In his home City of Daytona he is an active and valued member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club. He and his wife hold membership in the Presbyterian Church. July 12, 1921, recorded the marriage of Mr. Haile and Miss EMMA L. GUTHRIE, of Jacksonville, and they have a fine little son, WILLIAM G.
