Dear Sir, Replying to your letter of the 29th, beg to advise you that I left the Army of Tenn. with Major Genl, French, on whose staff I was A.D.C. in time to reach my home in Alabama on Dec 25, 1864, where he and I remained until the close of the war; Being Aid-de-Camp, on the staff of Maj. Genl. French he was allowed, by Army regulations, to take me with him without obtaining a leave of absence for me. In the spring of 1865 I swore allegiance to the United States Government at Girand, Ala. My house was burned, after the war & all my war records & posessions was destroyed. There are no living commissioned Officers who were with me during my time of service in the Army. July 5th, 1928 Mr. Ernest Amos, Comptroller, Tallahassee, Fla. Attention: Secretary Pension Board. Dear Sir: I enclose herewith Soldier's Pension Claim signed by Wiley Abercrombie and duly witnessed, acknowledged and approved by the Board of County Commissioners, with attestation of the Clerk of the Circuit Court. There are no Commissiones officers or Comrades of Mr. Abercrombie's organization located in this vicinity, who can make the affidavits for forms D, E, and F. Further, Mr. Abercrombie does not know that there are living any Commissioned Officers or Comrades who can make such affidavits. I enclose herewith a copy of letter from the Pension Dep't of the State of Georgia, which gives information on his service as taken from records of Washington. A check of these records seems to be the only way to verify the service of Mr. Abercrombie. The writer will greatly appreciate your giving this matter prompt attention as the Veteran is greatly in need of money. Thus far, his pride has kept him from even asking for a pension. If there are any other details, on which I may be able to give some aid, I will be very glad to have you call on me. Very truly yours, Millard B.
