Sheriff investigators believe the man, Richard Preston Windsor, 33, may have shot his mother, Ellen Thompson Windsor, in her 50s, and then shot himself. A shotgun was found next to the bodies. Investigators are awaiting the results of the autopsy by Volusia County Medical Examiner Arthur Botting to determine how many times the two were shot. Daytona Beach Morning Journal Tues Oct 5, 1982 pg 3 Cops Report Shotgun Used in Osteen Murder-Suicide From Our West Volusia Bureau DELAND-- A Sanford man shot his mother with a 12 gauge shotgun near an Osteen cemetery Saturday, then killed himself with the same weapon, sheriff's investigators said Monday. The bodies of Ellen Thompson Windsor, about 50, and her son, Richard Preston Windsor, 33, 213 Coachman Court, Sanford, were found by a family friend at 6 p.m. Saturday on a dirt road adjacent to the cemetery. Sheriff's Lt. Ed Carroll said Larry Lee, 33, Osteen, found the bodies after Richard Windsor had visited Lee earlier Saturday. Carroll said Windsor had left a note at Lee's hom during the visit. Another note was found on Windsor's body at the death scene. "Our investigation indicates that Mrs. Windsor was killed by her son, who then turned the weapon on himself," Carroll said. "The notes indicate that there were family problems involved... we believe Windsor's father is buried in the Osteen cemetery." Carroll said autopsy results are expected to confirm the cause of death for both victims. "That will close the investigation," he added.
