One Thousand Nine Hundred and Nine, personally appeared before me, a Clerk Circuit Court in and for the County and State aforesaid, Elizabeth Jane Hill, a resident of Tallahassee, County of Leon, State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the provisions of Chapter 5885, Laws of Florida, approved June 7, 1909. That she is the widow of W. B. Hill who was enlisted under the name of W. B. Hill on the 15 day of March, 1862, in Company Carson’s 12th Regiment of the State of Georgia and who was honorably discharged at May 6th 1864, 186…, (sic) on account of wounds. Hill who enlisted March 1861 in Captain Jas. D. Frederick Company, “A” Doyles Regiment of the State of Ga and who while in actual service and in the line of duty as such Private was on the 9th day of May, 1864, at Wilderness in the State of Va [*(Here state fully and clearly all the facts showing date and cause of death.)] that I was legally married to said soldier prior to the first day of January, 1885, at _____________ in the State of Florida; that I have been a bona fide resident of the State of Florida continuously since the first day of January, A. D. 1890; that I do not own property, real and personal, to the value of $800 in this or any other State, and am not otherwise enabled or in a position to earn a livelihood, and have no income from any source sufficient for a livelihood; and that I have not purposely disposed of my property for the purpose of availing myself of the provisions of this act. The children of parents who are unable to support themselves shall be required to make provisions for their support. 2078. On information filed before the Justice of the Peace of the proper district by any person whomsoever, stating that certain persons have made no adequate provisions for their father and mother, or either of them, the Justice shall cause a summons to be issued to said parties, and evidence to be taken as to the truth of the facts stated in the information, and if the same shall be found true, after a fair trial in which the defendants shall have the right to be heard by counsel, the Justice shall issue an order making an assessment on the said children for such amount as shall be necessary for the support of their parents. 2079. Said order shall carry with it the right of enforcement by execution, and shall have the force and effect of a writ of garnishment on the wages of such children, and shall further provide for the person to whom and the manner in which the money assessed therein shall be paid. Hill, aged 52 years, by occupation a Farmer who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Whitmill (sic) B. Hill who was on, the __ day of March, 186_, enrolled in Captain James D. Frederick Company “A” of Macon county, State of Georgia and that while serving as a Private in “C” Company, 12th Geo. Regiment, Doyles (old) Brigade, and in the line of his duty at the Wilderness in the State of Virginia, on or about the 9th day of May, 1864, I (Here state name or nature of disease, or location of the wound or injury. If disabled by disease, state fully its causes; if by wound or injury, the precise manner in which received and especially the extent of the disability resulting therefrom.)…………..and that by reason of said service and as a direct result of said injuries I am now unable to earn a livelihood; that I am a citizen of said county and State, and have been a bona fide citizen of the State of Florida continuously since January 1st, 1875; that neither I nor my wife owns property to the value of fifteen hundred dollars, and that I am not “otherwise enabled or in a position to earn a livelihood;” that I am not receiving a pension from the United States, or any other State; that I never deserted the Confederate service, and make this declaration for the purpose of being placed upon the invalid pension roll of the State of Florida, as provided by act of the Legislature, approved June 8, 1889, as amended June 2, 1893. The bullet has never been extracted & as a result of such wound he suffers from recurring attacks of rheumatism resulting directly in the loss of ability to do constant & hard manual labor & of two segments of 4th finger of left hand. Carson’s Company, of 12th Regiment from the State of Georgia, and served in said Company; that while so serving and in the legitimate discharge of duty he was on the 6th day of May, 1864, at [* Chansellorsville] Wilderness Va wounded by a minnie rifle ball, and that as a direct result of said wound, he is now unable to perform manual labor; that he is not a pensioner of any other State, or of the United States; that he has resided continuously the last twenty years in The State of Florida, and respectfully makes this claim for the pension authorized by the Act approved February 16th, 1885, and amended June 7th, 1887.
