After being captured at Gettysburg he was home on furlough in
September and October of 1863. He was present in Savannnah in
January and February 1864. He was wounded in the right foot and
left leg.He was born in Leon Co. Florida was 6 feet 1 inch,
dark complextion, hazel eyes, black hair, and by occupation a farmer.
He is one of the only ones from Company I to have surrendered at
Appromattox. His wife was Agnes Boatwright and they were married
December 24, 1857. His second wife was Julia V. Williams
B. 2/28/58-D. 3/9/1941. Record of death found in Veterans Grave
Registration, St. Augustine Florida. 1940-1941.

Wife was Celia Wargaret Barrow born 7/23/1831, died 1/25/1893.
Word of mouth passed down by the family (Jesse Gerrell) said
Weld Hamlin went into the swamps of Jefferson County to avoid
conscription into service. He would sneak home to get food,
from time to time. He was captured by Confederate authorities
and told he was to be hung as a deserter. Because he was the
uncle of Daniel Ladd, he was not hung but placed in the 1st
Florida Reserves. His home was located above the Leon Wakulla
County Line about 2 miles east of Natural Bridge.

Virginia Wilkie of Tallahassee states he was in the light house at
St. Marks with two other men of the 5th Fla. Cav. at the time of the
sighting of the Union troops converging on St. Marks February 1865.
She also states that when they were paroled they had to go to Tallhassee,
to the Capitol and sign the pardon papers. On arriving there he was
travling with another member of the unit who stated he would never
sign anything for the Union.

blockading the Ocklockonee River, on board was Allen A. Stephens.
He said he belonged to a company of 20 men about to rise against
the rebel Government and needed ammunition. He was allowed to r
eturn to shore and said he would report that a schooner
was burned up the coast.

He was sent home by Dr. Palmer on september 10, 1863.
The wound he received was in the calf of the left leg, and he was
unable to walk without crutches because of muscle damage. He was
5 feet 8 inches, had grey eyes, light hair, and tallow complexion.
His wife was Susan Lipscomb, and they were married March 13, 1856.
After the war he moved to Tallahassee and opened a store on
Adams street. He never regained the full use of his left leg.
