BROWN, RICHARD A. The leading dental surgeon of Pensacola is Dr. RICHARD A. BROWN, who is a native of Florida, and during the World war was a member of the Dental Corps on active duty with the government. Doctor BROWN was born at Natural Bridge, Florida, February 6, 1892, son of Dr. JOHN W. and ELIZABETH E. (HENDERSON) BROWN. His Father was a physician with a long and interesting career. He graduated in medicine at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, practicing in that state and in Texas. He served as a surgeon in the Confederate army, and was once wounded and was also captured and for eleven months was in a northern prison at Elmira, New York. He finally located at DeFuniak Springs, Florida, where he practiced until his death. RICHARD A. BROWN attended the grammar and high schools of DeFuniak Springs, and took his professional preparation at Atlanta, where he graduated from the Southern Dental College in 1917 with the degree D. D. S. He practiced a short time at Pensacola, and in July, 1918, was commissioned for duty as a dental surgeon and stationed at Key West, Florida, in connection with a hospital there. He remained on active duty until July, 1919, when he was relieved, but was held in the Reserve Corps, until July 1922. Since July, 1919, he has resumed his work as a successful dental surgeon in Pensacola. Doctor BROWN is a Baptist, and is a Royal Arch and Knight Templar Mason and Shriner, also belongs to the Masonic Grotto.
