Owens, their testimony being dis-regarded because they was not on the Pension roll, then I secured the affidavit of Mr, M.L.Lassitter, who was and is now receiving Pension, I wrote to Mr, J.J.Nichols, of Warsau,Fla,his letter I sent to you, saying he remembered a man by the name of Wright, but not well enough to testify to, later as you can see he recalls this man to his mind and so advised me and Iam now enclosing to you his affidavit as to the service of Mr,Wright, this affidavit was taken at Warsau, as the writer has never met Mr,Nichols in person, this now gives you the affidavit of Noah,Adams,W.L.Owens, M.L.Lassitter, and J.J.Nichols, to the service of John.J.Wright, and Iam going to beg of you to take up the claim again and reconsider it,and I do not see how you can dis-regard the plain testimony of four men as named above to you, whose testimony or truthfulness here where they are personally known has ever been doubted or in any way questioned, and whose claim I can not see could justly be denied because they have not already been granted a pension, Mr,Wright and Owens claim was approved by the Board of County Commissioners some two years past, and the claim of Wright and Adams approved again this year, had Mr,Wright been a man of means and an educated man he would have been on the Pension list years ago,but being a poor man without a dollar education or even a good strong mind he has depended on others to do for him,and he is today a helpless man bearing the scars of the wounds he says he receiven in the war, solely depening on others for his daily support, and for this reason alone the writer is pressing his claim, not for any other cause whatever, and Iam trusting that you as men of reason will take this matter up again in justice to a poor human being and give it the consideration that it should have,I can see no reason why you as the Pension Board of Florida, have not the proof to justify you in allowing these claims, giving these applications the same consideration that others have had, these men are honest and should be considered, if you desire I can furnish you the affidavits of any reasonable number of men who knows these men and would belive them under oath in any circumstance,if I can further serve you in any way in connection of the claims kindly advise me, and personally knowing you men as I do,I belive if you just had the situation before you as it is you would not hesitate to take care of these applications, trusting to hear from you with favorable report, and with best wishes,Iam, Yours, truly, J. Dear Sir: Your application for pension was considered by the board a few days ago and denied for the reason that your proof of service is not satisfactory. It appears from your application that you served in the company of home guards under a man by the name of Jones, and furnish proof of this service by affidavits of two men, both of whom claim they served in the same command with you. The Pension Board requires, in the matter of proving up home guard service, that where the affidavits of comrades are furnished, that there must be some evidence to show that the men claimed to be comrades were in fact comrades and members of the command claimed. There is no evidence submitted to show that the men testifying to your service were comrades of your company. I would suggest that you make proof of service by affidavits of soldiers that served in the same command with you, and who receive pension for said service. The Board would like to be advised as to why the men testifying to your service have not received pension before this time.
