She was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Westville, Fla., to William Angus and Annie Lee Carroll Rhodes. Mrs. Sherrer grew up in the Sandy Creek Community in Holmes County, graduating from Ponce de Leon High School in 1940. She was a devoted wife and mother who created a loving home for her military husband and three daughters from Virginia to Texas, as well as in Germany. She was Baptist by faith and a member of East Baptist Church, where she was particularly dedicated to the youth ministry. Mrs. Sherrer was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Mercer Sherrer, brother, Willard Rhodes; and sister Cleotra Mae Wolf. Mrs. Sherrer is survived by her three daughters, Gail Russell and husband Winston, of Hattiesburg, Miss., Carol Zarantenello and husband, Michael, and Linda Ledford, all of DeFuniak Springs; two brothers, Roy Rhodes of Panama City, Fla. and Billy Ray Rhodes and wife Pauline, of DeFuniak Springs; one sister, Nell Hall of DeFuniak Springs; seven grandchildren, Joseph Russell and wife, Mary Ann, Lee Ann Smith, Allen Russell and wife Christy, Gina Powell and husband Tony, Amy Toller and husband Allen, Kimberly Reece and husband David, and Kristen Ledford; and 12 great - grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Clary- Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at East Baptist Church, 901 Bay Ave.DeFuniak Springs, with the Rev. George Chestnut officiating. Burial will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Winston Russell, Allen Russell, Allen Toller, David Reece, Mike Zarantenello and Chris Allen.
