Among these were Mortimer BRIGHT, Sheriff; Thomas HULL, Justice of the Peace; Thomas M. BUSH, County Judge; J.D.GRESHAM, Justice of the Peace; E. ALLEN, Precinct Judge; and the Postmasters at Holmes Valley, St. Andrews Bay and West Point (Apalachicola). The accuracy of the Territorial Census of 1825 and the U.S. Census of 1830 seems to be open to question, perhaps because the vastness and sparse settlement of the region complicated the effort. New settlers were literally drifting into the area, some to stay and others to move elsewhere, increasing the likelihood that the enumerator failed to find those in some of the more remote places.
