The city of Vernon was incorporated in 1925, with the municipality's first
Ordinance being dated 1/2/1926. First city officials were:

W. M. Baker, Mayor;
J. D. Nixon, W. H. Roche, C. T. Miller, J. M. Jones, and J. W. Sapp, Councilmen;
J. M. Simmons, Marshal, and O. Crocker, Clerk. 

The city's minutes and related records from then until 1937 were lost, but records from
1937-1989 remain fairly complete, showing these elected officials and city
clerks to be serving at the time indicated:
