Moody's oldest son. James was George’s oldest son born 1841. George had told his son James to stay with the family while his younger brothers Jacob, George and Isaac followed their father George into the Confederate army. James had grown restless and wanted to join the troops in Atlanta. He rode off on George’s best horse in search for his father and brothers. He finally sought directions where his father was located and rode to join them in the middle of the battle at Kennesaw. A Yankee shot James off his horse. George had found his horse and finally James, body all bloodied and at peace. George removed his coat and laid it on his son’s body out of respect for his son. He was buried with the troops on the mountain, yet never was a member of the confederate army. George kept the horse until the end of the war. It is said he let the horse out to pasture never to be rode again (Sarah Ann O’Connor, 2008) File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/appling/military/civilwar/other/moody129nmt.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/gafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
