Ben Taylor J. Ben Taylor, I reside in Appling county, GA, Post Office is Alma C. RFD #2 Resident seventy years in August 1910, will be seventy one in August 1911 Enlisted in Confederate States Army J.H. Latimer's Compnay in Nove 1862 at Holmesville, GA and was later transferred to the 25th ? Ga Reg Vols Remained in military service until I was captured in May 1863. I do not know of my own knowledge, (where Company surrendered) I being in Prison at the date of surrender in Elmira, N.Y. I was not present (at the time of surrender) I was in prison at Elmira, N.Y. My company was in the battle of the Wilderness in Virginia in May 1863, when I was captured. (I left the company because) was captured and had to leave ....the authority of the captors. First in prison at Pt. Lookout MD and later at Elmira NY Was captured in Battle of Wilderness and was held in prison at Pt. Lookout Md and in Elmira NY was released after the surrender. Property: 90 acres land value $1000. One town lot value $25, money, notes and accoutns $42.00; household furniture $75; live stock $234; vehicles and farm tools $65; Gun & C $10.00; Total $1451. Had no wife in 1908. I gave all the property I owned to my children that I owned in 1908, except what I own now, being 1 hours $125; hogs $20; one small town lot $15; ?? $20; notes $70 ...(can't read) Itemized above, which amounts to $915.00 I am unable to work and live with my children No, I never applied until now. Ordinary's Certificate Appling County I, A.F. Byrd, Ordinary of said county, certify that I know the applicant, J.Ben Taylor for pension is the person he represents himself to be and resides in said county. That I also know E.W. Lee, the witness swearing to the service and ?? Holton and Braham Minshaw, who are freeholds, all residents of said county and were duly sworn by me before signing the foregoing affadavit and they are all truthful and trustworthy and their statements are entitled to full faith and credit. That the Tax Return of Appling shows that applicant value for tax is in 1908 $1451.00 for 1900 none for 1910 $224. Sworn under my hand and official seal of office this 10th day of Sept 1911. A.F.
