On last Monday evening at 4:15 o’clock, Mr. Allen Dixon, Sr., who lived at what is known as the Dixon settlement, near Surrency, died after an illness of about ten days, at his home. Mr. Dixon was one of the pioneer citizens of this section of the state and was held in the highest esteem. At the time of his death he was 80 years of age. He was a gallant confederate soldier, having received a wound in his right arm, which practically destroyed the use of this arm. He was a member of the Methodist Church and also the Holmesville Lodge of the Masons. A man of high ideas and splendid character he always held the confidence and esteem of his fellow man. In his home life he was a devoted and affectionate father and husband. He was preceded to his grave about ten years ago by his wife, who was a Miss Courtney Moody, before her marriage. The funeral was conducted by Rev. JA Blanton and the interment took place at the George Moody Cemetery in the presence of a large number of relatives and acquaintances from all sections of the county.
