A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Bennett was born January 15, 1918, daughter of Tom and Ella Guthrie Hewitt. During her lifetime she was a school teacher and also worked as a bank teller with Citizens Exchange Bank in Pearson, GA. She was a member of Willacoochee United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Clayton Bennett. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Bennett were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Willacoochee United Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Morrison officiating. Special musical selections included, "Just One Rose Will Do" rendered by soloist Bo Fender with Francine Fender accompanying at the piano and "Fall On Your Knees and Cry Holy" rendered by soloist Dianne Davis with tape accompaniment. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Beth Paulk, pianist. The interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens. Serving as active pallbearers were Neil Dillingham, Reid Dillingham, Mickey Simmons, Johnny Simmons, Eric Mizell, Chuck Walker. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
