Born February 18, 1936, in Atkinson County, Mrs. Broussard was the daughter of Bernie and Louella Lewis Clement. She had made her home in Alexandria, LA for many years before moving back to Atkinson County in 1993. She was a homemaker but had worked in the insurance business while living in Louisiana. She was also a member of the LA State Police Wife’s Ass. After moving back to Atkinson County, she and her husband along with her sister and her late brother-in-law and neighbors began hosting the “Pig Jig” every April and November. People came from several states and neighboring communities to enjoy the hospitality of the Broussard’s and Mitchell’s which included lots of good food, gospel and blue grass music and good fellowship. She was a member of the 1953 graduating class of Atkinson County high School and since moving back hosted the annual 1953 Class Reunion at her home. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernadette Norigenna and brother in law, Roland L. Mitchell, Sr. Survivors include, husband, Leroy Broussard of Pearson, GA; 2 daughters, Ella Stuart of Shreveport, LA; Jeanne Broussard of Bellingham, WA; sister, Syble Mitchell of Pearson, GA; 2 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Broussard were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Spikes and Rev. Buddy Mitchell officiating. Special musical selections “Not Afraid,” “Stairway to Heaven” and “Amazing Grace” were rendered by the “Sweetwater Creek Singers,” prelude and postlude music was provided by Waunell Nichols, pianist. The interment followed in Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lee Pittman, Travis Mizell, Jouquin Tores, Will Bourgeois, Rody Barrilleaux, Sidney Barrilleaux. The family encourages memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
