Atkinson County Citizen - July 15, 2010
 Mr. Era Gillis Carter age 69 of Willacoochee, GA passed away Wednesday, 
July 7, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL following an 
extended illness.
 Born May 1, 1941 in Coffee County, Mr. Carter was the son of Era and 
Verneil Gillis Carter. He had made his home in Atkinson County for most of 
his life and was a retired farmer. He was a loving husband, father, 
grandfather, and friend, who enjoyed working in his yard, collecting 
turpentine antiques and visiting, especially the sick and ones in need. He 
was a longtime member of Beulah United Methodist Church and the Men's 
Brotherhood Breakfast. he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jesse Carter, 
Mackie Carter and Morris Carter.
 Survivors include, wife Helen Nugent Carter of Willacoochee, GA; daughter, 
Sandra Hughes and husband Jeff of Willacoochee, GA; son, Chuck Carter and 
wife Lea of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren, Sarah Hughes, Harrison 
Hughes, Gil Carter; several nieces and nephews also survive.
 Funeral services for Mr. Carter were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 
at Beulah United Methodist with Rev. Eddie Morrison, Rev. Jim Duvall and 
Rev. Julian Tucker officiating. Special musical selections included "Sweet 
Bye and Bye" and "In His Arms I'm Not Afraid" rendered by the Sweetwater 
Creek Singers and "There Is A River" sung by the Beulah Trio. Soft music for 
the prelude and postlude was play by Tammy Paulk pianist.
 The interment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery.
 Serving as active pallbearers were Ed Tillman, Jim Paulk, Wilson Paulk, 
Jimmy Grantham, Julian Haskins, Frank Littleton.
 Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Brotherhood Breakfast.
 Relihan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
