A native of Douglas, GA, Mrs. Carter was born September 22, 1948, daughter of Evelyn Rowell Thigpen and the late Lawrence Thigpen. She had lived in Pearson all her life and was a 1966 graduate of Atkinson County High School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She had worked at the Citizens Exchange Bank for 40 years as a loan officer and was an active member of Goodwill Assembly of God Church where she served as Children’s Church Director and Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Thigpen. Survivors include, husband Grady Carter of Pearson, GA; daughter, Amber Johnson and husband Steven of Pearson, GA, mother, Evelyn Rowell Thigpen of Pearson, GA; two brothers, Jimmy Thigpen of Waycross, GA and Jerry Thigpen and wife Brenda of Pearson, GA; four grandchildren, Ava Johnson, Stella Jo Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Ali Johnson; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Carter were held Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Goodwill Assembly of God Church in Pearson, GA. With Rev. Donnie Wilkes and Rev. Edward Mathews officiating. Special musical selections included, “The Anchor Holds” rendered by Mike Paulk accompanied by cd and “Beulah Land” rendered acapella by Rev. Donnie Wilkes. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was rendered by Michelle Howell, pianist. Special memories were provided by Mrs. Carter’s sister-in-law, Catherine Tanner, at the gravesite. The interment followed in Sweetwater Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Shea Browning, Zane Nugent, Wayne Marx, Wayne Giddens, Ron Lee, Kevin Harper.
