Atkinson County Citizen - March 30, 2014
 Mrs. Eula James Cook, age 90, of Pearson, GA., passed away Friday, March 21, 
2014, at Baptist Village in Waycross, GA, following an extended illness.
 Born March 15, 1924, in Atkinson County, Mrs. Cook was the daughter of W.O. 
“Shear” and Mamie Strickland James. She worked in the retail business for many 
years, was also a homemaker and a member of the Atkinson County Red Hatters. 
After retiring and raising her own children, she operated a small daycare center 
for children in her home. She was a member of Pearson United Methodist Church 
but had been attending the Manor Community Baptist Church for the past nine 
years while living with her daughter in Manor. She was an avid supporter of 
Missions and when the new Sanctuary for the Pearson United Methodist Church was 
being built many years ago she worked tirelessly to secure funding for the new 
structure. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Wilbur Cook, Jr. and 
a son Tommy Cook.
 Survivors include three daughters, Janice Lang of Orlando, FL., Peggy Childs 
and husband Ron of Port St. Joe, FL., Suzan Boyd and husband Stancil of Manor, 
GA; two sons, Vernon Cook of Hinesville, GA., Todd Cook and wife Gaye of 
Bluffton, SC; sister-in-law, Gertrude James of Axson, GA; twelve grandchildren; 
twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
 Funeral services for Mrs. Cook were held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2014, at 
the Pearson United Methodist Church with Rev. Rip Snow and Rev. Gene Hughes 
officiating. Special musical selections included “It is Well With my Soul,” and 
“Amazing Grace my Chains are Gone,” rendered by John Lang soloist and pianist. 
Soft music for the prelude was by John Lang pianist and the postlude was “He is 
Risen,” by cd.
 Serving as active pallbearers were Justin Starling, Matthew Starling, Drew 
Starling, Brittany Cook, Cummings Gary, Zach Childs.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Atkinson County Red Hatters.
 The interment followed in Union Hill Cemetery.
 Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
