Born November 22, 1926 in Atkinson Co., Mr. Corbitt was the son of Son and Lora Fussell Corbitt. He had made his home in Albany, GA for many years before moving to Savannah 17 years ago. He was a retired painting contractor and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include, wife Ethel Newmans Corbitt of Savannah, GA, son Donald Jathon Corbitt and wife Gail of Sasser, GA; 3 daughters JoAnne Lane and husband John of Savannah, GA, Cathy Lynn Ragan and husband Everette of Savannah, GA, and Lisa J. Stewart and husband Russell of Jesup, GA; 2 brothers, D.L. Corbitt of Pearson, GA and Curtis Corbitt of Pearson, GA; 4 sisters, Louise Goodman of Cadwell, GA, Cora Dasher of Albany, GA, Wealthy Holt of Leesburg, FL and Beatrice Pounds of Deland, FL. 13 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Corbitt were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at the Willacoochee United Methodist Church with Rev. Marvin Goodman and Rev. Eddie Morrison officiating. Special music included "Amazing Grace" sung by the attending congregation and "Never Along" and "Oh What A City" rendered by soloist Michele Harrell with Francine Fender at the piano. Francine Fender pianist played soft music for the Prelude and Postlude. The interment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were John Lane, Sr., Everett Ragan, Russell Stewart, John Lane, Jr., Jathon Lane and Clay Corbitt. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
