A native of Atkinson County Mr. Corbitt was born March 26, 1920 son of Thomas S. and Maggie Pearson Corbitt one of the pioneer families of Atkinson County. He was a retired farmer and the oldest member of Union Hill Congregational Christian Church at the time of his death. He was also member Emeritus of Union Hill Cemetery Fund. Mr. Corbitt was preceded in death by his wife, Menna Lee Mancil Corbitt and 5 sisters, Veatrice Moody, Louise Murray, Winnie Harrell, M Mattie Ruth Lott and Earnestine Gilstrap. Survivors include daughter, Lana Corbitt Tanner of Douglas, GA; sons, Steve Corbitt and wife Nancy of Willacoochee, GA, Bruce Corbitt and wife Coline of Pearson, GA, Tommy Corbitt and wife Heather of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Willard Vickers of Douglas, GA, Lounell Holman of Dunnellon, FL; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Corbitt were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Union Hill Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Darren Deal, Bro. Marcus Corbitt and Bro. David White officiating. Special musical selections included "Precious Memories" and "In The Garden" rendered by Coline Corbitt, Paige White and Mandi Corbitt accompanying by Preston Hardee banjo, Roy Lee Hardee and Shad Sirmans on guitar. "Amazing Grace" was presented by the attending congregation with Ellen Hardee accompanying at the piano. Ellen Hardee pianist provided soft music for the prelude and the postlude. The interment followed in Union hill Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers was grandsons Marcus Corbitt, Benji Tanner, David White, Slade Lott, Cal Corbitt, Garry Corbitt, Rocky Waldron. Honorary pallbearers were great grandsons, Maxwell White, Gavin Corbitt, Daniel Corbitt, Henry Corbitt. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements. grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
