A native of Coffee County, Dr. Davis was born on May 20, 1957, and was the son of the late Horace Bainard and Johnnie Mae White Davis. He lived most of his earlier years in Atkinson County. On July 1, 2006, Dr. Edwin Davis began his tenure as the new Superintendent of Schools for the Coffee County School System. Originally from Atkinson County, Dr. Davis is a graduate of Valdosta State University, where he earned his Bachelor's of Education in Health and Physical Education as well as his certification in Secondary Social Sciences. Additionally, he holds a Masters and Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Davis was an avid outdoors man as he love hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Melinda Davis and son, Jake. His brothers, Michael Davis and his wife Jennifer of Pearson, GA and Donnie Davis and his wife Sandy from Broxton, GA, sister, Charlotte Davis Fussell and her husband Ray, of Douglas, GA. Dr. Davis is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2007, at the Camden County High School Auditorium in Kingsland, GA with Rev. Paul W. Dupree officiating. Ray Fussell, Dr. Davis' brother in law, gave the eulogy and personal remarks were given by Mark Pimpo. Special music was provided by Mark Walker who sang "Sweet, Sweet Spirit," "I Could Only Imagine" and "Nearer My God To Thee." The congregation joined together and sang. "How Great Thou Art" with special selections from the collections of Elvis Presley as the prelude and postlude. Burial for Dr. Davis was in Atkinson County, GA at the Little Utah Cemetery near Axson. Active pallbearers were Bill Thombs, Tim Morris, Greg Reed, Kevin Washington, Daniel Simpson, Doug Benton, Dale Cooper, Greg Mullis. Honorary pallbearers were Joey Goble, Luther Gibbs, Dougal Gillis, Jr., Charlton Gillis, Floyd Tanner, Pierce Abel, J.C. Outlaw, Lawton Teston, Jack Gross, Calvin Wilson, Clay Davis, Ronnie Bennett. The Davis Family would like to thank Kim Clayton, Lisa Hodge and Jessie Hodge for a beautiful slide presentation during the memorial service in Camden County. The Davis Family would also like to thank Dr. Ann Proctor and the Camden County School System for their kind and gracious hospitality in allowing thee Memorial Service for Dr. Davis to be held in the Camden High School Auditorium.
