A native of Atkinson county, Mr. Davis was born September 1, 1937, son of Ralph Alexander and Etteinne McCranie Davis. Mr. Davis served in the National Guard and worked in law enforcement for many years with the Georgia State Patrol. Mr. Davis was a civilian flight instructor for the military and he continued to share his love for aviation for much of his life as a private flight instructor. For the past 13 years, Mr. Davis owned and operated Pit Stop Bar-B-Que Restaurant and Grill in Tifton. He was a member of Willacoochee United Methodist Church. Survivors include, wife of 48 years, Carole Sheffield Davis of Willacoochee, GA; son, Donald O'Neal Davis, Jr. and wife Janet of Saco, Maine; daughter, Denise Davis Straight and husband Gregory of Millersville, MD; sisters, Carman Davis Boatwright and Charles of Valdosta, GA and Anna Moody and husband Larry of Ocala, FL. Numerous other family members and friends also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Davis were held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Willacoochee United Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Morrison and Rev. Julian Tucker officiating. Special musical selections included "Oh How He Loves You and Me" and "It Is Well With My Soul" rendered by soloist/pianist, Jay Vickers. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Cranford Sutton, pianist. The interment followed in the McCranie section of the Willacoochee City Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Jay Vickers, Henry Sheffield, Clint Sheffield, Michael Eckard, Adam Eckard, Ryan McCranie. Serving as honorary pallbearers were the employees of the Pit Stop Bar-B-Que Restaurant and Grill. Relihan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
