Atkinson County Citizen - June 20, 2013
 Carlue Corbitt Dowd, age 84, of Axson, GA passed away on Saturday, June 15, 
2013, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. 
Dowd was born on October 2, 1928, in Kirkland, GA to the late Issac Corbitt and 
Eva Vickers Corbitt.

Survivors include, her two daughters, Barbara Dianne (E.L.) Meeks of Axson, GA 
and Betty Latrell (Jimmy) Gillis of Willacoochee, GA, daughter-in-law, Barbara 
Lott, twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, two great-great 
grandchildren; sister, Essie Mae (H.C.) Wilson of Vidalia, GA; brother, Vickers 
Corbitt of Jacksonville, FL She is preceded in death by her husband James 
T. “Jake” Dowd and two sons, Macom Lott, Jr., and Tony Dowd and one grandson, 
James Gillis.

Funeral Service was held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church 
with Rev. Larry Johnson, Rev. Archie Morgan, and Rev. Henry Dowd officiating. 
 
 Interment followed at Sharpe Cemetery in Uvalda, GA.
 Music was furnished for the service by John Lang singing and playing the 
piano, “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” “Amazing Grace My Chains are Gone,” 
and “Save a Place for Me.”

 Pallbearers were Logan Meeks, Drew Meeks, Hunter Meeks, James Pittman, Keegan 
Meeks, Justin Meeks, Quinton Dillinghan, Eli Meeks, Lawton Nugent, M.J. 
McKinnon.

 Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
