Born in Willacoochee to the late Effie Akins and Clarence William Futch, Sr., he was a member of Christian Fellowship Church at mud Creek in Lanier County. He retired after 29 years of services as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army. During his career he served in World War II and was stationed in Europe, the Lingayen Gulf in the Philppines, a tour in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. He was a 60 year member of Duncan F.&A.M. Lodge #234, and for many years, was a member of Hasan Shrine Temple in Albany. "Pap", as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was an avid fisherman, gardener a and animal whisperer. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Orie Louis Lankford Futch; daughter, Jill F. Whitfield and her husband, Richard, of Savannah, granddaughter, Lindsay W. Smith and her husband Daniel and Raegan W. Highsmith and her husband, all of Savannah; great-granddaughters, Lillian Blythe Smith and Olivia Tayloe Highsmith; sister, Glenda Yawn and her husband, Bill, of Willacoochee, and brothers, Ray Futch and is wife, Opal of Smithville, MS and Marion "Lace" and h his wife, Nancy, of Willacoochee. A memorial service, with full military honors, was held at 2 p.m. on November 1 17 at Christian Fellowship Church at Mud Creek conducted by Pastor David L. A Akins.
