A native of Chicago, IL, Mr. Gardner was born on October 30, 1946, son of Thomas Walter and Allie Mae Myers Gardner. He had made his home in Pearson for the last 37 years and worked in drywall and as a painter in the construction industry and helped to build the new high school and the middle school. He was a member of Covenant Outreach Ministries. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Tammy Mae Gardner and Susie Mae McKinney. Survivors include, wife Joann B. Gardner of Pearson, GA; son Destin Scott Gardner of Chicago, IL; daughter, Melissa Carolyn Gardner of Ft. Myers, FL; brothers, Donnie Gardner of Chicago, IL and Thomas Walter Gardner and wife Sherry of Chicago, IL; sister Pamela Mae Ryan and husband Kenny of West Palm Beach, FL; 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survives. Funeral services for Mr. Gardner were held at 4 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Covenant Outreach Ministries with Rev. Robert Spivey officiating. Special music selections included “I Will Rise,” “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone by CD,” “There Stood A Lamb” rendered by Rev. Robert Spivey with CD accompaniment and “From A Tavern to a Temple” rendered by Tony Allen with guitar accompaniment. Soft music for prelude and postlude by Tony Allen guitarist. The interment will follow at a later date. Serving as active pallbearers were James Carter, Michael Stone, Shawn Bennett, Blake Sapp, Jake Bennett, Scott Bennett, Jeremy Stone.
