A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Gibbs was born November 14, 1924, daughter of Joseph D. and Mattie C. Vickers Bryant. She was a retired beautician and attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Bryant, and one sister, Doris Roberts. Survivors include, two brothers, Joseph D. Bryant and wife, Phyllis of Reddick, FL and Carswell Bryant and wife, Janet of Reddick, FL; two sisters, Vida Herrin and husband, Willie of McIntosh, FL and Margaret Horne of Sanford, FL; two very special friends, Elaine Akins and 2 sons, Tom and Kevin McDonald who she considered grandchildren, all of Pearson, GA and Lynda Rowe of Pearson, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside funeral services and interment for Mrs. Gibbs was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2005 at Sweetwater Cemetery in Pearson, GA with Rev. Charlie Dunn and Rev. Carroll Carver officiating. Special musical selections included, "Long Black Train" rendered by soloist Michael Spivey, with tape accompaniment. Serving as active pallbearers were Tom McDonald, Kevin McDonald, Clyde Gurley, Jesse Tanner, Foster Davis, Leon Spivey. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of arrangements.
