Mr. Giddens was born in Ware County, Dec. 11, 1932, son of Raymond "Cado" and Lillie Mae Belle Powell Giddens. He had been a resident of Atkinson Co. before settling and making his home in Coffee Co. He was a retired farmer and Security Guard. Mr. Giddens was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) and American Legion, Douglas Post. Mr. Giddens was a member of Lang Country Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Pridgen Giddens, son, Keith Giddens, daughter, Donna Giddens, a brother, Raymond Giddens, Jr. and a sister, Nell Mizell. Survivors include 3 step daughters, Sarah Austin and husband Stanley of Yulee, FL, Susan Caves of Broxton, GA, Sharon Harper and husband Bryant of Broxton, GA; 1 brother, Johnny Giddens of Douglas, Ga; and 3 sisters, Barbara McGill of St. Pauls, NC, Christine Webb of Jacksonville, FL, Lynda Giddens of Jacksonville, FL. Seven grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Giddens were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Lang Country Church with Rev. Clyde Purvis officiating. Special musical selections included "Lay Down and Leave It" rendered by Anita Strickland and Diane Chambliss with Diane Chambliss accompanying on the guitar, "Pray We'll All Be Ready" rendered by soloist, John Lang at the piano with vocal accompaniment by Anita Strickland and Diane Chambliss and "My First Day In Heaven" rendered by soloist, Sharon Harper with taped accompaniment. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided by John Lang, pianist. The interment followed in Langs Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Joe Willie Giddens, Jimmy Summerlin, K.J. Delk, Roger Mizell, H.F. Mizell and Russell Giddens. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
