Giddens age 102 of Axson, GA passed away Friday, February 13, 2 2004 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, GA following a brief illness. Born July 16, 1901 in Effingham County, GA, Mrs. Giddens was the daughter of William Elmore and Annie Zettler Seckinger. She was a member of Salzburger Society and descendant of Mathias Seckinger who was among German immigrants a arriving in Savannah to establish Jerusalem Ebenezer Church on the Savannah R River in 1736 in Effingham County where the first orphanage in Georgia was o opened in 1737. Mrs. Giddens church membership was at St. John's Lutheran C Church in Rincon, GA. "Mrs. Darrell" was the widow of the late James M. "Jim" G Giddens. They owned and operated a General Merchandise store in the Kirkland C Community from 1922 to 1963. Survivors include; daughter, Helen G. Hindman of Axson, GA; granddaughter, Bonnie Hindman Corbitt and husband, Bobby of Kirkland, GA; grandson, James Giddens Hindman of Axson, GA; 2 great-grandsons, Russell Andrew Williams and Doug Williams; and great great granddaughters, Amber Williams and Shannon Williams; sister, Moran Seckinger Weiland of Beauford, SC; several nieces and nep nephews also survive. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Giddens were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Fe February 16, 2004 at Antioch Cemetery with Rev. Mitchell Deems officiating. Sp Special music "In His Arms I'm Not Afraid" was rendered by the Sweetwater Creek Si Singers. The interment followed in Antioch Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were, Henry Nugent, Hampton Giddens, Frank S Sutton, Julian Haskins, Ray Peterson, Ellie Morris. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
