Gray, II. Ben’s mother taught in the Atkinson County School system for 35 years and was known to scores of Atkinson County natives as “Miss Tillie.” Ben graduated Atco High where he was quarterback for the Rebels. He went on to p play briefly under Bobby Bowden at South Georgia College before transferring to G Georgia Tech where he graduated in 1962 as an Aeronautical Engineer. He worked f for Lockheed Martin in Washington, DC for several years before returning to C Coffee County to pursue a career in agriculture. Ben’s first marriage was to Rita McKinnon. They had three children; Larissa Gri Griffin of New Orleans, LA, Benjamin B. Gray, IV, of Chicago, II and Rebecca Gra Gray of Asheville, NC. He later married Debbie Daniels and became a loving stepfather to her ch children, Catherine, Morgan and Megan. Mr. Gray passed away at Savannah Memorial Hospital on February 11, 2010 after a an extended illness.
