Atkinson County Citizen - March 2004
 Mr. Hiram Griffis age 79 of Merritt Island, FL formerly of Atkinson Co., GA 
passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, 
FL following a brief illness.

 Mr. Griffis was born Sept. 5, 1924 in Mershon, GA, son of Charlie and Effie 
Creech Griffis. He was an avid country musician and played lead guitar with 
several popular bands, including the Texas Playboys. He lived in Houston, TX 
for 21 years and retired from the City of Houston. He was of the Baptist Faith. 

 His son Freddie Griffis and his loving wife of 37 years Loella Richel Griffis 
preceded him in death.

 Survivors include, wife, Alene White Griffis of Keystone Heights, FL; 3 
daughters, Lola E. Gounaris of Merritt Island, FL, Linda K. Morrissey of 
Phoenix, AZ and Brenda Adams of Miami, FL; brother, Marvin Griffis of Houston, 
TX, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also 
survive.

 Funeral services for Mr. Griffis were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2004 at 
Stokesville Baptist Church with Rev. William Pope officiating. Special music 
included "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden" rendered by soloist Derrick Soles 
with Lois Mills at the piano. Lois Mills pianist played soft music for the 
Prelude and the Postlude. The interment followed in the Stokesville Cemetery.

 Pallbears were Wes Ballard, Alan Walston, David Glenn, Ray McGhee and Joey 
Jackson.

 Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
