A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Guess was born January 29, 1931 son of Homer and Alice Gilbert Guess. He was a retired carpenter and meat cutter. Mr. Guess was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy in Pearson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Lena Miller Guess. Survivors include 2 sons, Donnie Guess and wife, Carrie of Pearson, GA, Keith Guess and wife, Amy of Broxton, GA, 2 sisters, Ruth Bennett of Jacksonville, FL, Jean Ellen Nugent of Willacoochee, GA, 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren also survive. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Guess were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009 at The Church of God of Prophecy in Pearson, GA with Rev. Hardy Crosby, Rev. Leonard Pittman, and Rev. Fred Morgan officiating. Special musical selections included, "What A Day That Will Be," "Build My Mansion" and "Daddy's Hands," rendered by Charles and Tammy Wood. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided by pianist, Charles Wood. The interment with military honors provided by an Honor Guard Contingent from Ft. Stewart GA followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were, Mike Nugent, Rodney Corbitt, Roger Metts, Dewayne Guess, Andy Guess and Oscar McReady. Serving as honorary pallbearers were, J. W. Lott, Ken Giddens, Theopolis Lott, Edward Mathews, Greg Brown, Chester Brown, Eddie Cribb, Roger Stone, Homer Guess and Mike Rowe.
