Willie D. Guthrie, age 71 of Pearson on Wednesday afternoon, April 11th, 2007, at his residence following an extended illness. Rev. Guthrie, a native and life long resident of Atkinson County, had been the Pastor of Westside holiness Church for 41 years. He was well known in South Georgia for his Ministry. He was the son of the late Gerald Guthrie and the late Mable Tanner Guthrie. He served as a Paratrooper with the U.S. Army in WWII. Rev. Guthrie was a member of the Independent Association. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Anna Loyce Crabtree Guthrie of Pearson, GA. Two daughters, Cindy and Donnie Chaney; Kim and Donnie Hall all of Douglas, GA; son, Dewight Guthrie of Pearson, GA; six grandchildren, Eric Chaney; Kayla Chaney; Sara Nugent; Hannah Hall, Tyler Merritt all of Douglas, GA and Jonathan Guthrie of Pearson, GA; Rev Guthrie also had four sisters, Geraldine Sears of Haines City, Florida, Anna Sue Luke of Willacoochee, GA, Margaret Smith; Faith Bennett both of Pearson, GA; three brothers, Billy Hugh Guthrie of Marietta, GA, Sammy Guthrie of Pearson, GA, Bobby Guthrie of Douglas, GA. He has one special sister in law, Joyce Moore of Louisville, KY and several nieces and nephews, other relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 14, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Holiness Church Campground, with Rev. Neal Bridges and Rev. Gene Walls officiating. Military graveside rites and interment followed in the Satilla Memorial Gardens. Personnel from Fort Stewart furnished the Flag Detail and bugler. Active pallbearers were Glen Guthrie, Robby Guthrie, Tommy Guthrie, Phillip Guthrie, Paul Guthrie, Andy Harper. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Moore, Josh Jordan, Edward Day, David Gentry, Randy Barrett, J.L. Sellers, Billy Joe Watson, Kendall Ward, Herschell Smith, Gary Egde, Robert Eason, Andy Hickox, Velma Russ, Marshall Adcock, Stacy Gillis, Steve Coomes, Bud Hutcheson, Steve Gentry, Joe Padgett, Wayne Conway, Wimbric Padgett, Johnny Padgett, Donald Mathis, Doug Padgett, Lloyd Hubbard, Joaquin Torres, Mark Jordan, Larry Bowen, Mac McCrary, Terry Johnson, Charles Phillips, Lee Allen, Lester Johnson, Caroll Taylor, Phillip Buzzard, Benny Baze, Faulin Buzzard, Andrie Morgan, Edison Taft. Special Musical Selections, "Sweet Bye and Bye," presented by Bro. Bobby Guthrie, "Thank You for Giving to the Lord," presented by the Westside Holiness Church Youth Choir led by Phillip Guthrie and "Empty Manson," was presented by Bro. J.L. Sellars, with Justin McGovern, on the piano, and Bryan Hall on the guitar. Ricketson Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.
