Harper Friday Morning. Funeral services for Mrs. Betsy Merritt Harper, 79, who died early Thursday morning, December 23, 1948, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. T. Lee in Ocilla, were held at the Lax Baptist Church Friday morning, December 24, with the Rev. D. H. Barwick, pastor and the Rev. Virgil Vickers of Willacoochee, officiating. Burial was in the Paulk Cemetery near Lax. Mrs. Harper, the former Miss Betsy Merritt, was born in Coffee County was the widow of the late Amos Harper. Pallbearers were Orman Purvis, Jack Allen, John Wingate, Edison Lee and Melvin Lee. Honorary pallbearers were Y. G. Harper, Albert Kirkland, J. M. Paulk, Richard Lee, Arthur Harper and W. G. Harden. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. T. M. Purvis, Atlanta, Mrs. Frank Allen, Fitzgerald, Mrs. W. L. Wingate, Willacoochee, Mrs. Jim Lee, Ocilla; two sons, W. A. Harper and J. O. Harper, both of Ocilla and one brother, Henry Merritt of Willacoochee.
