A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Haskins was born July 13, 1930, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Mary Newbern Haskins. He was a dispatcher with the Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Hawkins was of the Methodist faith and attended Sweetwater United Methodist Church. Survivors include, sister, Bernadette Williams of Hornbuckle, TN; One aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Haskins were held Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Sweetwater United Methodist Church with Rev. Frank Littleton and Bro. D.Q. Pittman officiating. Special memories were written by Melissa Haskins Whitley and read by Glenda Pittman. Special musical selections included “When I Travel my Last Mile” rendered by D.Q. Pittman and Julia Register and “Keeper of the Door” rendered by D.Q. Pittman, Neal Gillis and Buddy Mitchell accompanied by the Sweetwater Creek Singers. The Interment followed in Live Oak Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Julian Haskins, Herman Tucker, Cleveland Register, Roy Haskins, Keith Haskins and James Joyce.
