A native of Ware County, Mr. Higgs was born October 17, 1922, son of Elisha and Sarahan Bagley Higgs. He was a retired carpenter and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Higgs was preceded in death by a son, Billy Higgs, two sisters, Linnie Mae Harrell and Addie Herndon and four brothers, Elisha Higgs, T.J. Higgs, Leo Higgs, and Vernon Higgs. Survivors include a son, Randy Higgs of Millwood, GA; two daughters, JoAnn White and husband, Fred of Newnan, GA and Diana Higgs of Waycross, GA; a former wife, Azell Higgs of Millwood, GA; brother, Ben Higgs of Axson, GA; two sisters, Lucille Davis of Millwood, GA and Toby Welch of Waycross, GA; grandchildren, William Higgs, Michael Higgs, Pepper Higgs, Pattie McCullough and Trina Ahmed of Newnan, GA and Shavontay Higgs and Elizabeth Higgs of Waycross, GA; great grandchildren, Addie McCullough, Nadie Ahmed Airyonna Ahmed, Samima Ahmed, Avery Higgs, Chelsia McCoy, Alston Collins and Amber Collins of Newnan, GA and Corbin Allen of Waycross, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Higgs were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at the Millwood Baptist Church with Rev. J.D. Herndon, Rev. Fred White and Mr. Michael Higgs officiating. Special musical selections included "If You Should Need Your Daddy" rendered by soloist, Trina Ahmed with taped accompaniment and "I'll Fly Away," rendered by soloist Trina Ahmed with Carol Thompson accompanying at the piano and Harriett Youngblood accompanying on the keyboard. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Carol Thompson, pianist and Harriet Youngblood on keyboard. The interment followed at Utah Cemetery in Axson, GA with military honors being rendered by a U.S. Navy Honor Guard contingent from Albany, GA. Serving as active pallbearers were Randy Higgs, Michael Higgs, William Higgs, Steve McCullough, Micky Ahmed, Barry Collins. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, GA was in charge of arrangements.
