A native of Waycross, GA, Mrs. Higgs was born August 13, 1922, daughter of J John and Stella Tuten Smith. She was a longtime resident of Axson, GA. She was a a homemaker and a member of Mt. Green Church of God of Prophecy in Millwood, G GA. Mrs. Hills was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Leo James Higgs, Sr. Survivors include, son, Leo James Higgs, Jr. and wife Terry of Blackshear, GA; daughters, Sarah Ann White and husband, George of Axson, GA and Bernell Higgs McGovern of Lake Mary, FL; eleven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Higgs were held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Green Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Lanier Weaver, Rev. Melvin Burch and Rev. Clayton Davis officiating. A special poem for Mrs. Higgs, written by her granddaughter, Stephanie Nelson, was read by Rev. Melvin Burch. Special musical selections included “My New Home” written by Mrs. Arlene Higgs was rendered by soloist and pianist, Christy Youngblood, “Going Home” and “Look What I’ve Traded for a Mansion” was rendered by the Musgrove Family accompanied by Mar by Mary Weaver at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provid provided by Mary Weaver, pianist. The interment followed in Utah Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jorgan Harrell, Jeramy Harrell, Joey Davis, Woody Wilson, Matt Matt Higgs, Dale Davis, Wad Sears, Ronnie Hardee.
