The Atkinson County Citizen - July 24, 2008
 Mr. Edsel Highsmith, age 77, native of Willacoochee and a long time resident 
of Shady Acres in Douglas, GA passed away Friday, July 18, 2008 at Shady Acres 
Convalescent Center in Douglas, GA following an extended illness.
 Born April 14, 1931 in Atkinson County, Mr. Highsmith was the son of Ira A. 
and Mamie McPhatter Highsmith. Before becoming disabled Mr. Highsmith worked 
as a farmer. His church membership was a Willacoochee United Methodist Church.
 Survivors include; two sons, Christopher Highsmith of Savannah, GA and Remer 
Highsmith of Savannah, GA; one daughter, Derene Bennett of Axson, GA; two 
sisters, Irene Nolan of Willacoochee, GA and Laura McKinnon of Willacoochee, 
GA.
 Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also 
survive.
 Funeral services for Mr. Highsmith were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008 
at the Willacoochee United Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Morrison 
officiating.
 Special music included "It is Well With My Soul" rendered by Craig McKinnon 
and Tammy Paulk with Kellie Ruth Lockwood accompanying at the piano, "Victory 
In Jesus" was sung by the attending congregation. Kellie Ruth Lockwood pianist 
played soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude. The interment followed in 
Paulk Cemetery.
 Serving as active pallbearers were: Britt Tillman, Mathew McKinnon, Don 
Nolan, Abram Nolan, James Corbitt and Jimmy Corbitt.
 Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of arrangements.
