A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Hindman was born February 6, 1920, daughter of Jim and Darrell Giddens of Kirkland, GA. She was confirmed in the Methodist Church when she was nine years old. She received her elementary education at the Kirkland school and graduated from Pearson High School. Mrs. Hindman was a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Elementary Education. She later studied at Mercer University and the University of Georgia. Mrs. Hindman served as a teacher in Atkinson, Coffee and Effingham Counties. She retired from teaching after 24 years of service due to poor health. She was a member of the Kirkland United Methodist Church where she was the church organist and pianist and a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edmond Hindman. Survivors include son, James G. Hindman of Axson, GA; daughter, Bonnie Corbitt and husband Bobby of Kirkland, GA; grandson, Andrew Williams and four great- grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Hindman were held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2006 at the Kirkland Methodist Church with Rev. Curtis Corbitt an Rev. Edward Mathews officiating. Special musical selections included, "In His Arms" and "Stairway To Heaven" rendered by the Sweetwater Creek Singers and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" rendered by the congregation with the Sweetwater Creek Singers accompanying. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was rendered by the Sweetwater Creek Singers. The interment followed in Antioch Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Julian Haskins, Melvin McKinnon, Tommy Johnston, Ray Peterson, Hampton Giddens, William White. Serving as honorary pallbearers were the Visiting Nurses of Atkinson and Coffee Counties. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
