Mrs. Hunkapiller was born October 22, 1922 in Boonville, MS, daughter of Charles D. and Mary D. Simpson Walley. She had made her home in Willacoochee since 1949. She worked for many years at the old Federal Corset Plant and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Willacoochee First Baptist Church and the Mary Martha Adult Sunday School Class of Willacoochee First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Hunkapiller and a daughter, Edith Scott. Survivors include, 3 daughters, Helen Merritt and husband Jackie of Willacoochee, GA, Gloria Steverson and husband Ray of Willacoochee, GA, Betty Walker of Willacoochee, GA; 2 sons, Kenneth Hunkapiller and wife Joyce of Willacoochee, GA, and Daniel Hunkapiller and wife Margie of Willacoochee, GA; brother Junior Lee Walley of Kenosha, WI; 17 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Hunkapiller were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Willacoochee First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Huffstuttler officiating. Eulogies were given by Nicole Wetherington and Joey Floyd great grandchildren of Mrs. Hunkapiller. Special musical selections “Go Rest High on That Mountain” and “Will the Circle be Unbroken” were rendered by her grandson Jason Hunkapiller with taped accompaniment and “I’ll have a New Body” and “Amazing Grace” were sung by the Willacoochee First Baptist Church Choir and attending congregation with Bonnie Kunberger accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was played by Bonnie Kunberger pianist. The interment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were grandsons, Jason Hunkapiller, Greg Hunkapiller, Wayne Mixon, Kevin Steverson, Chris Scott, Steve Scott. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Mary Martha Adult Sunday School Class of Willacoochee First Baptist Church. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of arrangements.
