Born September 29, 1932 in Jacksonville, FL, Mr. Hurlbert was the son of Napoleon Broward, Sr. and Thelma Fancher Hurlbert. Mr. Hurlbert was a retired veteran of the United States Army National Guard, retired from the City of Jacksonville Sanitation Department and worked for many years at Coffee Regional Medical Center and Mathews Service Station in Pearson, GA. He was a member of Ozias Ozias Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Hurlbert was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Hurlbert. Survivors include, son, Malcom Hurlbert of Douglas, GA; daughters, Lois Jean Cooper and husband Darrell of Pearson, GA, Karen Lynnette Larney and husband Ivan of Dundy, KY, and Tempie Clark and husband Junior of Waresboro, GA.; s sisters, Minnie Stone of Pearson, GA, Thelma Brunner of Pearson, GA, Ann Spikes o of Pearson, GA and Margaret Stevens of Nashville, GA; 7 grandchildren, 13 great g grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Hurlbert were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Johnson and Rev. Tim Blanton officiating. Special musical selections included “Ships of an Angel” and and “Look for Me in Glory” rendered by cd, “That Long Black Train” and “He Knows my Name” rendered by Katie Royals with cd accompaniment, and Sweet Bye and Bye” rendered by Phillip Guthrie with Joyce Johnson on the piano and Bob An Andrews on guitar. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Jo Joyce Johnson, pianist. Interment followed in Sunnyside Cemetery with Military Honors provided by a US H Honor Guard Contingent from Ft. Stewart, GA. Active pallbearers were Gene Davis, Russell Hurlbert, Stevie Hurlbert, Larry Kintheloe Kintheloe, James Murray, David Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Bethany Hospice. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
