A native of Atkinson County, Mr. James was born September 5, 1950 son of Aubrey and Vada Knight James. He was a retired mechanic and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a longtime volunteer of the Atkinson County Fire Dept. and the Axson Fire Dept. and was very dedicated to helping others u until poor health forced his retirement. He was recently honored at a banquet f for being a longtime fire department volunteer where he was presented his fire h helmet and a plaque for his dedication. He was a member of Sunnyside Freewill B Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Rose Moore. Survivors include wife, Barbara James of Axson, GA; sons, DJ James and wife Shirley of Douglas, GA, Jamie James and wife Andrea of Pearson, GA; daughter M Michelle Moore and husband David of Pearson, GA; brother, Buddy James and wife G Grace of Douglas, GA; 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also s survive. Funeral services for Mr. James were held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 6, 2010 at Sunnyside Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Burch and Rev. James Drake officiating. Eulogy was offered by Mr. James' granddaughter, Amber Moore, followed by a video tribute. Special musical selections included, "Wish You Were Here" rendered by Debbie Braddy with cd accompaniment, "Where Angels Fear to Tread" rendered by Zenda Adair with cd accompaniment, "Daddy's Hand" rendered by Angie Odum with cd accompaniment, "Amazing Grace" rendered by the congregation with Lorena Kight Barrios on the piano. Soft music for the prelude an and postlude was provided by Margaret Williams, pianist. The interment followed in Sunnyside Cemetery with dedication of the grave by s son, James, followed by military honors rendered by a U.S. Army Honor Guard C Contingent from Ft. Stewart. Serving as active pallbearers were Christopher Dawson, Don Murray, Brian Schotch Schotch, Locky Joyner, Lee Pittman, Robbie Stone. Serving as honorary pallbearers were the Atkinson County Sheriff's Office, Pearson Police Dept, Atkinson Co., Fire Dept., Pearson Fire Dept, Axson Fire Dept., Willacoochee Fire Dept., Walter Batten, Johnny Durrance, Doug Bridges, L Larry Burch.
