A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Kirkland was born November 27, 1935, son of Randolph Julian and Ione Sears Kirkland. He was retired from the State of Georgia, Child Support Recovery Unit. Mr. Kirkland was the first Child Support Agent in the Alapaha Circuit. He also worked as an investigator with the DA's office for 10 years. Mr. Kirkland was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Union Hill Congregational Christian Church where he served as the secretary of Union Hill's cemetery fund for many years. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Kirkland of Pearson, GA; two daughters, Karen Carter of Pearson, GA and Seann Miller and husband E.J. of Newport Richey, FL; two stepsons, David Cofield and wife Gloria of Groveland, FL and Andy Cofield and wife Abby of Axson, GA; stepdaughter, Pam McMillan and husband Mac of Crestview, FL; and brother Jeff Kirkland and wife Patricia of Pearson, GA. Two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Kirkland were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Union Hill Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Carlie Lastinger officiating and the eulogy was given by Bill Walker. Special musical selections included "How Great Thou Art" rendered by soloist, Rev. Preston Moore with Francine Fender accompanying at the piano and "Blessed Assurance" rendered by the congregation with Francine Fender accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Francine Fender, pianist. The interment followed in Union Hill Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Bill Renfroe, Jimmy Dale Cribb, Claude Creel, Bill Walker, Dave Baker, Lane Basemore. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
